Simultaneous interpreting is the discipline that looks impossible: while the speaker talks, I listen, process, and render the message into the target language with a delay of three to six seconds. It only looks effortless because of years of training, careful preparation and a lot of caffeine.
When you need simultaneous interpreting
Whenever the schedule is tight and more than a handful of people are listening. Conferences, AGMs, press briefings, board meetings, international webinars, live broadcasts. Anywhere pausing for translation would derail the flow.
How an assignment works
You send the programme, speaker list and slides. I build a glossary, research the topic and read the background material. On the day, I arrive an hour early for the tech check and a quick word with the speakers. Then we work in a team and swap every 20 to 30 minutes.
Why two interpreters per language?
Concentration drops measurably after 30 minutes. That is exactly when errors creep in. According to AIIC professional standards, two interpreters per booth is the minimum, three from six hours of work onwards. It is not bureaucracy, it is quality control.
What equipment do you need?
Sound-proof booths to ISO 2603 (built-in) or ISO 4043 (mobile), headsets and microphones for the interpreters, receivers for the audience. For remote assignments I work on Zoom, Interprefy and KUDO. I will gladly connect you with experienced tech partners in Berlin and across Germany.

German and English in both directions from the booth. Through my network at VKD and BDÜ I assemble teams for almost any language combination, from French and Spanish to Mandarin.
